Ouya started off as a Kickstarter to bring out a gaming console that married all of the games we play to one platform. Seems like a crazy idea right? Well come June, you and everyone else who didn’t help in the consoles funding will be able to purchase one out right from one of the online or physical stores. You can pre-order right now from places like Amazon, Target, Best Buy and GameStop. To pre-order all you have to pay is $99.99 for the console and if you want an extra controller, you pay an extra $49.99.
However, Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman stated that Kickstarter backers will get their consoles delivered in March while you pre-order people will only get your orders shipped in April. Also don’t look for Ouya to compete with the giants. Another statement made by the CEO saying,
“We don’t need to beat Xbox or Sony or any console that enters the marketplace,” Uhrman told the Wall Street Journal, “We need to carve out our own niche. Ouya offers a very different value proposition to the gaming you can currently experience. It’s a box designed specifically for the television that leverages the screen, we support 3D gaming, HD, we support the controller, we added a touchpad to the controller. The kind of content you’ll see on Ouya, it’ll be inventive and creative and has never been on the television.”
