Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix took to the blog today to announce that the idea of Qwikster was dead. That they will be keeping their Instant Stream and DVD services under one roof instead of making it more difficult for their user-base. Here is a quote from that blog:
It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.
This means no change: one website, one account, one password… in other words, no Qwikster.
In the blog, Hastings mentions adding movies from big companies like Paramount, Universal and Sony. Also from a lot of TV and Cable Network shows have been added as well. The one thing left out of this announcement, is the idea of adding game rentals. This could simply mean that the idea along with Qwikster has been canned as well, but we won’t know until there is an official statement on that.
